SCOTT Athletes dominate the Tour de Tirol

07 October 2013

Adam Kovacs and Simona Staicu made it happen this weekend at the Tour de Tirol in Austria. SCOTT was on every podium, winning the overall in both the men‘s and women’s categories. This special event consisting of 3 races, a 10km, Marathon, and 21km, was also the opportunity for SCOTT to organize its very first Running Dealer Meeting. With Central Europe’s best SCOTT retailers participating in the different races and 4 talented athletes collecting victories throughout the weekend, the Tour de Tirol was a success on all fronts for SCOTT.

The first stage of the event started on Friday evening with a 10km race through Söll. Kenyan runner Henry Kemboi was on fire with his SCOTT Race Rocker’s and won the race in 0:31:33.2! Adam Kovacs (HUN) and Fabian Alraun (GER), both running for TEAM SCOTT International, finished in 2nd and 3rd respectively, joined one minute later by SCOTT Benelux sales representative Dries Busselot in 4th! In the women’s category, Simona Staicu (HUN), also from TEAM SCOTT, had a great run and won the 10km race in a time of 0:37:30.5.

The Kaisermarathon on Saturday was particularly demanding, not only because of the course profile but also due to the very bad weather conditions. Gerd Frick (ITA), also from SCOTT’s running team, joined in for this marathon with one goal - winning it! The Kenyan runner Henry Kemboi led the race for almost 35 km but started to show some difficulties on the uphill. Gerd managed to pass him and ran the last steep section of the race at an incredible pace, coming through rain and fog  with a time of 3:15:50.9. A couple of minutes later, teammate Adam Kovacs arrived at the top of the mountain and grabbed second place. At the same time, he already guaranteed his overall win with a 6 minute lead on his Kenyan concurrent. Simona led the women’s category for more than 2 hours but finally got caught up by Kathrin Götz (SUI) and finished 2nd after  4h05 of running. Spectators could then expect an exciting race on the next day, Simona being only 1 minute behind Kathrin in the overall.

The semi-marathon was the last stage of the Tour de Tirol and even with the 52km that Simona and Adam already had in their legs, they were both hungry for victory and had a really good race. Simona was in great shape and felt good in her SCOTT T2C Evo. She won the race without any difficulties in 1:20:23.9 – 4 minutes ahead of her concurrent Kathrin Götz! Her Teammate Adam was not feeling as well as her but still managed a very nice 3rd place in 1:11:52.0.Totaling their three race times, Adam Kovacs (5:03:04.2) and Simona Staicu (6:05:00.2) won the overall titles, becoming the King and Queen of the Tour de Tirol 2013. All in all, each of them was called 8 times on the podium throughout the weekend!

Last but not least, we had the pleasure of having SCOTT trail-running athlete Marco de Gasperi (6 time World Champion) stay with the SCOTT team during the whole weekend. Due to injury Marco couldn’t race but both top athletes and dealers appreciated his insider’s tips, support, feedback and sense of humor! Thank you Marco!

A special thank you goes to Martin Kaindl (Jolsport) and his Organization Committee for the great organization as well as to the Restaurant Auf da Mühle for making the SCOTT Hotspot possible!
